Hellenistic

The Hellenistic period falls between the Classical and Roman periods of Ancient Western intellectual history and dates from 332 - 31 BCE (i.e., the death of Alexander the Great to the victory of Octavian Caesar at the Battle of Actium).

This period is marked by an expansion of Greek culture throughout the ancient near east creating a common cultural framework within which the Roman Empire would emerge.

‘Hellenism’ is the term for the general world-view that emerged out of the mixture of Greek and near-eastern cultures during this period.
