Meletos of Athens

Meletos of Athens was a Fifth Century BCE orator from the Pithos deme (i.e., district/neighborhood) of Athens. He is notable for speaking on behalf of the three accusers of Sokrates (Meletos, Anutos, and Lukos).

The Third Century CE historian Diogenes wrote that Meletos was put on trial and executed by his fellow citizens for having falsely accused some time after Sokrates’ execution.
