Morality

In Ethical Theory, ‘morality’ refers to any normative behavioral code, distinguished from other normative social codes (e.g., law, religion, and etiquette) by the nature of the sanctions incurred by violations of the code.

The term 'morality' need not refer to a systematic or logically rigorous code of behavior; it may reflect nothing more than the normative intuitions of a particular community or individual. However, philosophers tend to use the term more narrowly to identify a particular theoretical framework which informs decisions properly called ‘moral’.
